Over the past year, I’ve worked collaboratively with the other Librarians and IT Specialists to develop a set of information literacy standards that are easily applicable and trackable for use within the collaborative units. After much analysis of various formats and skill sets, we decided on one based on the Australian and New Zealand Information Literacy Framework. These IL Standards are my main tool in collaborating on units that infuse core curriculum with information literacy skills.
After collaborating with the teacher and completing the projects, I ask teachers to sit and rate how their students performed on the specific skills. In doing this, we rate the students overall (outside of the class project rubrics) on how they performed. This feedback afterwards has provided valuable insight into the design and delivery of the collaborative unit.
